Waste & Recycling Operations Supervisor – Afternoons | Location: Derbyshire | Hours: Monday – Thursday 2:00pm – 12:00am & Friday 2:00pm – 9:00pm | Contract: Temp-to-Perm/Permanent | Pay: £15.00 per hour + Overtime Available
The Business
We are recruiting on behalf of an established waste management and recycling operation based in Derbyshire. The site processes a range of commercial and industrial waste streams, playing an important role in supporting sustainable recycling and waste diversion.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a busy recycling environment, suited to someone who understands the operational pace of waste processing and has experience leading teams on shift.
The Role
As Waste & Recycling Team Leader, you will oversee afternoon shift operations across the yard and processing areas, ensuring materials are handled safely, efficiently and in line with site procedures.
You will lead a team of operatives responsible for sorting, processing and moving recyclable materials while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity and housekeeping.
This role requires someone who is confident managing people in an industrial environment and who understands the practical challenges of recycling operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of recycling operatives during afternoon shift operations
- Ensure all waste and recyclable materials are processed safely and efficiently
- Monitor workflow across the yard and processing areas to maintain productivity
- Provide clear instruction and support to team members on daily tasks and priorities
- Maintain high standards of health and safety across the site
- Carry out shift briefings and ensure teams understand daily targets and requirements
- Support with the loading, unloading and movement of materials where required
- Report operational issues, maintenance concerns or safety risks to management
- Ensure the site remains clean, organised and compliant with operational procedures
- Assist with training and development of new team members
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working within waste management, recycling or scrap processing environments
- Experience leading or supervising teams within an industrial or yard environment
- Strong understanding of health and safety within waste or recycling operations
- Confident working in a hands-on leadership role
- Ability to work within a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- FLT, loading shovel or plant experience would be advantageous but not essential
